What We Do...

OUR STORY: On June 21st, 2006 our 10.5 yr old Rottweiler "Mika" lost his battle with canine cancer. This was a devastating time in our lives, and it affected me and my family in many ways. There hasn't been a day that's gone by without some type of memory. So, my family and I decided to make use of our spare time and make a difference! By developing our business, we're saving the planet from unwanted furniture items that eventually become landfill or neighborhood curbside waste, while supporting a very important cause. Then it happened... Without any notice, on June 10th, 2016 we lost our beloved 12 yr old Rottweiler "Baron" to Osteosarcoma. The following summer, we lost "Keizo" who had just turned 6 yrs old a few days earlier to spleen cancer and Lymphoma. The pain and heaviness felt inside was a reminder of why we began our journey with the NCCF through our boutique, The Vintage Owl. Losing our 2nd and 3rd dogs to cancer has empowered us to reach even further and work even harder to help save lives. 

RECOGNITION: In 2015, we were awarded the title of NorCal & SoCal Chapters of the National Canine Cancer Foundation, and we are honored to represent them for the state of California. We proudly donate a portion of the proceeds from every furniture sale to this wonderful organization. Simply share your design thoughts, tell us your budget, pick your color(s) and leave the rest to us! 

WOOD FURNITURE: We offer custom furniture painting with a variety of finishing options, as well as refinishing stained surfaces. The cost and turn-around time for completing your order will vary depending on the services and upgrades required. 

PATIO FURNITURE: Yucky metal patio furniture? We can help! We use single stage auto paint for all outdoor metal furniture. Auto paint was formulated to withstand heavy rain, extreme sun and other unforeseen weather conditions. So why not use it on your patio furniture?!

CONSULTATIONS: We offer a FREE in-home consultation to discuss the various design and color options that would compliment your home. And as our customer, we will keep you updated on a regular basis during the transformation process. A non-refundable deposit is required for all custom orders to secure your space on our schedule. We now offer cabinet painting for your kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and built-in storage. Our professional application process is a combination of preparation, top of the line materials and labor techniques that we've mastered through our experience. We use a high quality bonding primer and cabinet paint with a built-in sealer designed for durability and easy cleaning. We apply these products with a commercial paint sprayer which leaves a flawless finish with no brush marks. A variety of sheens and decorative options are available. We also offer a wide selection of hardware options to add or upgrade your existing drawer/cabinet pulls.

INDOOR: We offer limited reupholstery services for dining room chairs, accent chairs, bar stools and benches. We use designer home decor fabric that provides a heavier duty surface for cleaning and is longer lasting against normal wear and tear. Depending on the condition of the seats, replacement cushions and/or cushion wrap may be recommended. 

OUTDOOR: We also offer reupholstery for limited outdoor seating using a fade resistant and water repellant fabric specially designed to hold-up to the various elements. The cost will vary depending on the condition of the item and the chosen fabric, etc.

Please note: We do not offer replacement fabric or cushion services for sofas, fully upholstered chairs and ottomans. However, we do refer our more intensive reupholstery inquiries to someone local for estimates. Please contact us for more information.

“The 3Ds of Decorating”

🚫1. DON’T buy it because you can afford it!

Often times, people will purchase high dollar items because they think it’s better quality. You’ll be surprised at what you can find for a lot less money if you take the time to shop, or hire a decorator/designer to do it for you. Why spend extra money on one item when you can purchase several, or maybe find something similar that creates the same look but for half the price!

🚫2. DON’T buy it because you want it!

Just because you fell in love with it at the store doesn’t mean it will work well with your items at home. Decorating takes a keen eye and a sense of style coordination and sometimes the process takes a little longer than just a quick OMG! purchase. Take a photo, jot down the measurements and put the item on hold if you can. Then return home to evaluate whether that item will actually fit in with your ideas. If it’s on sale and you have to buy it, double check the return policy just in case it doesn’t work out.

🚫3. DON’T buy it because it’s the new fad!

Just because it’s the most popular style you saw on TV or in a magazine, doesn’t mean that it matches “your” style. Although newer decorating fads include a mixture of textures, colors and patterns, don’t get yourself caught up “in the mix”. There’s nothing worse than coming home with something you absolutely had to have, to then realize it doesn’t match at all. This leads to…THE DOMINO EFFECT!

What is the definition in decorating terms? Well…it starts when you bring a new item home that you want to fit in somehow, but it just doesn’t work with what you have. So you start getting rid of other things that you loved just as much the day before. Some new, some old, some inherited. Then you purchase more, or start again in a different room. You then realize your window coverings, wall paint and light fixtures don’t look right with your new decor. How about adding a feature wall? And so on…

So, avoid the 3D’s and think before you buy. Spend your money wisely and don’t get trapped in The Domino Effect!

​FACT: Cancer affects one of every three dogs. Of those, over half of them will die of cancer. The National Canine Cancer Foundation is a nationwide, contribution funded, 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to eliminating Cancer as a major health issue in dogs. 

We are always seeking new and unique solid wood pieces to add to our collection to refurbish and sell. However, we may have to turn away certain items due to customer demand and/or storage capacity. If you think you have an item we might be interested in, please contact us. Donation receipts are available upon request. Please note:  Because we take pride in our work, we are accepting solid wood furniture pieces only. There is currently a high demand for smaller dressers, nightstands (matching pairs), and mid-century modern furniture.
